Joel Jay Blacker is a British writer, director, and editor living in Los Angeles. Starting out as a production assistant in his teens in lieu of film school, he’s now an award winning filmmaker best known for his dark comedy series ‘Who You Are’ (SXSW 2019, Vimeo Staff Pick). With 10+ years work experience in the film industry that spans all departments of the process, Joel has an innate ability to carry a project from conception and development to release.

Other notable works include ‘ASS: Airport Security Squad’ a Facebook comedy series with over ten million online views, and his music videos ‘How It Goes’ (Vimeo Staff Pick) and ‘Dinner and a Movie’ that bridge genre-bending comedy with rap visuals. His comedic sensibilities extends itself to commercial work for the likes of Allstate & Kensington.

In 2021 Joel & Aubrey Blacker founded Zappy Bear, a post-production company with a focus on offering clients effective and exciting video edits. In one year the company has overseen and completed post production on feature film 'Exposure' as well as done works for the likes of Motortrend, KILZ paints, Sailun tires and The Cheesecake Factory.
